Russell Edward Cummings Sr. - July 17, 2004

Russell Edward Cummings Sr., 75, of Minonk died at 4:40 p.m. Saturday (July 17, 2004) at his residence.

A Memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Minonk. Father Ray Guthrie will officiate. Inurnment will be in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Minonk, with military rites conducted.

Memorials may be directed to his family. Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home, Minonk, is handling arrangements.

Russell was born Aug. 1, 1928, in Escondido, Calif., a son of Albert and Mary May Emerick Cummings. He married Lucille M. Glowacki on April 27, 1957, in Indian Head, Md. She survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Mary B. (Paul) Thompson, Bloomington; and Vickie L. (Wayne) Meyer, Leroy; two sons, Russell E. (Dorothy) Cummings II, Thorndale, Texas; and John W. (Lisa) Cummings, Kappa; 11 grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Russell was retired from the United States Navy and Caterpillar Tractor Company.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Minonk Council, the Minonk American Legion and a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge.

While in the Navy, Russell was a photographer's mate and cryptologist. He worked with Naval intelligence as a photo interpreter during the Bay of Pigs, Korean War and Vietnam retiring as Chief Petty Officer.
